SCALABRINI VILLAGE

The Scalabrini Village was envisaged in 1968, when the Scalabrinian Missionaries and a group of Sydney businessmen formed a committee to erect a retirement village for aged Italian migrants.
As the migrant population assisted by the Scalabrinian Missionaries began to age, the need to provide specific care for them became evident. However, the concept of re-creating the atmosphere of the village left by the migrants decades before played a central role in the type of services to offer them. The Scalabrini Village values the migrant experience of its residents and the link with the ethnic community.

Mission Statement

The Scalabrini Village is inspired by the christian ideal of love and caring in providing a homely environment to aged and disadvantaged residents of Italian origin who are in need of care.
We aim to provide high quality care in a professional manner. We strive to facilitate the learning process of our staff, in order to maintain the highest standards.
We wish to create and maintain co-operation and harmony between all staff members and residents of our villages. We affirm to offer appropriate care and support to all residents and their families when necessary in line with their cultural background.
We seek to ensure that language is no barrier within the Villages by employing, where possible, bilingual staff. We aim to run our village in a manner which is consistent with the Italian culture and tradition.
We recognize that due to our specific nature and composition (Scalabrinian Missionaries, migrant religious sisters and lay people) joint co-operation is necessary to achieve our goals. To realize our mission to the fullest, Scalabrini Village reserves the right and duty to start and follow up the process of admission of all appplicants for entry to the villages.
